Yityish Aynaw, has become the first Ethiopian-born Israeli to win the Miss World Israel. The beauty is 21 years old and stands 1.82 m.
She will represent Israel in the upcoming Miss World 2013 Pageant, scheduled to take place in Jakarta, Indonesia on September 28. A panel of judges awarded the title to Aynaw, a 21-year-old model who came to Israel about a decade ago, at the International Convention Center Haifa on Wednesday. Aynaw made history in Israel as the first black winner in the history of the Miss Israel Pageant. (Miss Israel מלכת היופי Malkat HaYofi – was created in 1950)
“It’s important that a member of the Ethiopian community wins the competition for the first time,” she was quoted by Israeli media as telling the judges in response to a question. “There are many different communities of many different colors in Israel, and it’s important to show that to the world.” Aynaw came to Israel with her family when she was 12. Acclimating to Israel was difficult at first, Aynaw said, but she picked up the language quickly with the help of a friend.
She has been working as a saleswoman at a clothing store since her army discharge. During the competition, Aynaw cited the slain American civil rights activist Martin Luther King Jr. as one of her heroes. “He fought for justice and equality, and that’s one of the reasons I’m here: I want to show that my community has many beautiful qualities that aren’t always represented in the media,” she said.
At the same event, Bar Hefer was crowned Israel’s Maiden of Beauty 2013 or Miss Universe Israel 2013. The beauty is 18 years old and stands 1.73 m. She will represent her country at the Miss Universe 2013 pageant later this year.

L’acclimatation à Israël a été difficile au début, déclara Aynaw, mais j’appris rapidement la langue grâce à l’aide d’un ami”.
Elle travaille en tant que vendeuse dans un magasin de vêtements depuis sa sortie de l’armée. Lors du même événement, Bar Hefer a été couronné Miss Beauté 2013 ou Miss Univers 2013. Elle représentera son pays au concours Miss Univers 2013 de cette année.
